 Now that you are ready to start working with Vishaad Yoga, here's what the finer details are.

 In times gone past, in India the birthplace of Yoga, Yoga was NEVER intended to be a subject learned and then taught as a profession. It was a personal odyssey, embarked upon for ones own well being in whatever form it took. It was a clearly accepted pre requisite that only those who had attained a level of mastery, often after decades of practice, would then be blessed by their preceptor and given the right to go forth and heal the suffering of mankind. There were NO "Yoga teachers" - only Yogi's (masters) and Yogins (aspirants), nothing in between.  One who was authorised to spread healing, had attained stability in the physical but also the mental and psychological disciplines and to hold out oneself falsely as a Yogi was so lacking in emotional integrity and obviously frighteningly detrimental to ones own Yoga practice, that it was inconceivable.

 In the context of the 21st Century and the dynamism of the West, as well as the rising tide of physical disease, the appearance of Yoga teachers who have established physical stability is a welcome and vital development but it is perfectly possible to be physically healthy but still be mentally fragile, weak and conflicted. History is littered with examples of perfect physical specimens performing atrocities, as well as living lives filled with suffering - their own and that of those around them. Athletes and soldiers nay well have attained physical peaks but that is no indicator of happiness and mental equilibrium. Before shouldering the huge responsibility of the mental well being of one of our brothers and sisters, ones own mental bodies need first to have become stable (sthir) and contented (sukham) and this is a MUST.

 Vishaad Yoga practices are practices with which one BECOMES mentally relaxed and harmonious and depending on your journey to date, it may take weeks or it may take months for you to start undoing the mental knots which cause you pain and suffering but it WILL take years before you can shoulder the karmas of another. As one BECOMES, one SEES the nature of the mind and its intricacies first hand and then one KNOWS, never in any other way. With most conventionl subjects, one KNOWS first, starts teaching second and may eventually BECOME at a later date.

 It must be emphasised that until we explicitly, in writing, permit you to use these practices with others, YOU MUST NOT DO SO. The burden of Karma is very fine and precise and inescapable, so please respect these conditions, they are for everyones benefit and well being, most especially your own.

 To re-iterate, let me clarify what Vishaad Yoga is NOT. Vishaad Yoga, unlike most physical aspects of Yoga,

is not something one can learn and then repeat to others.

it is not a body of knowledge that one can memorise and then teach to others.

it is not meant to be, indeed it can NOT be shared in training schools and classes and so we are NOT a training school, wishing to churn out teachers.  If we can help but a handful of persons to BECOME mentally healthy, that will have been a success!


We have already worked with experienced Hatha Yogi's with decades of Asana practice whose journey

into the waterways of the Mind has found them floundering in emotional rapids and these do need to be traversed, sooner or later. Let us be your guides and companions into the darkest continent known to Man!

If you would like us to come and share some of the principles and practices of Vishaad Yoga with your class or with a group of practitioners, we would be delighted to. All Yoga practitioners will one day need to purify their mental body, its inevitable and the more your practice develops the closer that stage comes.

If deepening introspection and the cultivation of stillness, sensory relaxation and the most challenging tasks of mental purification resonate with you, this is the retreat for you! On a Vishaad Yoga retreat you can be certain of delving deeply into your subconscious and discovering many of the blocks preventing your mind from becoming tranquil. 

A common feature of our retreats is ENERGY; out of stillness flows energy and this has to be experienced to be understood. In the safe tranquil environment of a retreat, we help you to learn the processes which will open the doorways to stillness. As you acquire inner harmony, energy levels rise automatically and great changes and genuine happiness result.

There are many retreats where a Yogin can go to enjoy physicality, to reconnect with one's body and to savour and delight in increased sensual experience. We have a slightly different approach. Whilst you are with us you will be helped to connect with stillness inside so that when you do re-connect outside, everything is more enjoyable!

Our retreats are usually for small groups (12 preferred), fully residential and are held at venues such as Braziers Park, Oxfordshire. For next year we are planning retreats in Oxford, Zurich, Dorset and a Masterclass Retreat in India. 


 

Once you have been practicing what passes for conventional Yoga for a while, once you have learned how to safely conduct yourself with awareness and presence in a class, and your attention has begun to turn inwards, you are ideally prepared to participate with our practices.

Vishaad Yoga

"PranaPositive" Retreat at Braziers Park Eco Community


 

Braziers Park, the Eco Sustainability Community in Oxfordshire provides the venue for the first Vishaad Yoga retreat.

 

A retreat for Yoga practitioners (all levels welcome) to explore the multiple levels of the "Prana" component of Yoga, to cultivate and deepen the connection with inner Silence and to emerge re-vitalised, stiller and lighter.

 

At a physical level, when we have enough Prana energy our physical bodies feel light, supple and "great places to live". When Prana is low, our physical bodies become sluggish, stiff and even movement is an effort. We will explore the movement of Prana, the means by which it leaks from our bodies and then cover the practices to harvest and conserve Prana, making the physical form a genuine, bright temple of light for divinity to take its place.

 

Harvesting Prana charges the prana batteries of the body but helping Prana to then flow unhindered to all the billions of cells that make up the body, to cascade down through the energy channels unimpeded improves the health and sense of well being a hundred fold. One of the most potent tools to ease Prana flow is the Neti Practice and we shall master this purification practice during the retreat.

 

At the level of mind, insufficient Prana appears as dark thoughts, the mind feels as though weighed down by woes, chained to heaviness, unable to break free. When Prana flows, the mind too becomes energised and light starts to shine into the dark corners or our minds. Every thought either attracts Prana or consumes Prana and we shall learn to create a pause in which every thought can be inspected, traced, identified and then retained or ejected. Even the oldest thought forms and the rigidest of belief structures can be seen and inspected once Prana starts to acumulate.

 

We are all spirit masquerading as human beings and the journey from being human to discovering and experiencing our own divinity inevitably requires the spiritual traveller to cross the river of the darkness within us. In ancient times preparation for this stage was the first step, even though it may have been distant, and served as the foundation upon which subsequent practices were then built.

Why Vishaad Yoga for the Workplace?

 

On the 4th September 2012, CNBC published the findings of researchers which revealed that there had been a dramatic increase in workplace related Stress, Depression and even Suicides and that the economic impact of these increases would very soon run to billions of pounds in terms of lost workplace productivity. 

The report stated:

 8709579 s"A growing number of global and European health bodies are warning that the introduction and intensification of austerity measures has led to a sharp rise in mental health problems with suicide rates, alcohol abuse and requests for anti-depressants increasing as people struggle with the psychological cost of living through a European-wide recession.

“No one should be surprised that factors such as unemployment, debt and relationship breakdowns can cause bouts of mental illness and may push people who are already vulnerable to take their own lives,” Richard Colwill, of the British mental health charity Sane, told CNBC.

“There does appear to be a connection between unemployment rates and suicide for example,” he said, referring to a recent study in the British Medical Journal that stated that more than 1,000 people in the U.K. may have killed themselves because of the impacts of the recession. “This research reflects other work showing similar rises in suicides across Europe.”

 

It has been conclusively established that certain Yoga practices improve a persons capacity to cope with stress as well as improve overall health and sense of well being. Premier League sports men such as Ryan Giggs and clubs here in the UK and the NFL USA have been using yoga to improve the performance of their players and teams and increasingly forward-thinking employers are now turning to Yoga to help teach their key staff the techniques necessary to maximise their work performance whilst at the same time maintain emotional and physical health.

Vishaad Yoga's practices which were traditionally used to establish tranquility of mind and body with the express purpose of establsihing the deepest levels of meditation are ideally suited to helping relieve stress and mental tensions, as well as helping the body relax and become refreshed. A typical Managers introductory course spread over 21 "55 minute" sessions delivers dramatic improvements in the areas below.
